Job Description:
The Controller manages PharmaIN’s financial activities in Bothell and is a key member of a small, motivated scientific team. This role includes strategic initiatives and daily accounting tasks, as well as overseeing the business administration function. Key responsibilities cover forecasting, budgeting, financial analysis, federal grant management, general accounting, audits, accounts payable, banking, and payroll.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Finance & Accounting:

  • Manage routine accounting duties: payables, receivables, month-end close, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies and GAAP.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports and manage annual audits.
  • Coordinate federal tax filings with the CPA firm.

Financial Analysis & Budgeting:

  • Handle budgeting, forecasting, and projections.
  • Develop financial models for business analysis.
  • Track and report key performance measures.

Federal Grant Management & Compliance:

  • Submit financial reports to sponsors on time.
  • Allocate administrative costs and conduct cost reimbursement draws.
  • Guide the scientific team on grant compliance.
  • Provide monthly grant spending vs. budget reports.
  • Manage A-133 audit and ensure timely submission to NIH.


  • Oversee payroll process with the provider.
  • Ensure taxable benefits are communicated and payroll reports are accurate.
  • Record payroll transactions in the general ledger.

Administration Oversight:

  • Oversee the Business Administrator, ensuring efficient management of insurance renewals, external filings, and surveys.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or higher – CPA is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance.
  • Experience in accounting, management reporting, FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, and financial operations.
  • Knowledge of federal grant compliance and management.
  • Experience with Financial and A-133 audits.
  • Equity accounting experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Concur.

This position has a compensation range dependent on qualifications and experience.
Range:  $155,000 to $185,000 annually
